Venetian Plaster

Venetian Plaster is a wall surfacing technique, considered an art form, applying thin layers of plaster with a spatula with blue steel blades that creates a distinctive, smooth, soft mirror finish.

The paint technique was widely used through out history: tombs in Egypt were decorated with a lime and gypsum plaster; cities in India were plastered - one in particular used blood for the pigment, resulting to its nickname THE PINK CITY. Italy was, and still is, widely known for its beautiful colors and plaster technique.

Creating a surface of Venetian Plaster is a very involved process. It takes time, patience and an eye for detail. I have found the challenge and skill involved in this ancient technique/art form to be therapeutic and rewarding.
